It’s hard to believe that my baby is 3 yeas old, hardly a baby, now. A few days before her 3rd birthday she got a hold of the fish food and decided to feed the fish all by herself. She gave them about 90% of the food in the can, so needless to say, she no longer has any fish. She noticed ” their tails were broken” as I was trying to get them out of the bowl in tine to save them but they didn’t make it. I had to discreetly flush them when she wasn’t looking and then dismiss their death by saying they want back tot he fish store. She had a very special birthday party at the ice skating rink (Rob’s idea). Audrey and her favorite playmates Olivia and Avary came to try out ice skating and them play in piles of fake snow. Aunt Lorrie, Aunt Mindy,Uncle Fo and Apple Mach were also in attendance. Although they did minimal skating (with rob helping all the kids around the rink) they show was a blast and a good time was had by the adults and kids. Audrey picked out her own cake this year – Dora the Explorer.

We took a trip with a Moms group to a local farm today. We ended up having to leave early. I think she didn’t want to wait her turn to see the animals – plus she was tired – which equals meltdown. She was not at all afraid to touch the animals and loved it, while it lasted.

Another story she will hate when she is a teenager:
I went to apply for a passport this morning. Audrey was in her umbrella stroller, munching on some goldfish crackers being a little angel while I willed out the paperwork, etc. I was in a small office with Audrey and the woman in charge of passports at the post office when Audrey let go a HUGE fart. She looked at me and said ” Skuse Me Mommy” and kept on snacking, of course, oblivious to my minor embarrassment. I looked at the woman who was staring at us in disbelief and said something like ” Ha, Kids”… I was speechless. Then Audrey looked back at me and said ” Good Polite!”. I had to laugh and say “Yes, that was polite, good job.” I was really glad that Audrey said “Excuse Me” cause for a second I thought that the woman thought that I had farted!

As I was getting Audrey out of the car after ballet today she looked at me and said ” Mama – you my best friend.” I about melted. I don’t know where she heard that ( TV probably) but it was one of the cutest thins she’s ever said. I knew I needed to document this to show her when she is 15 and finds me to be a complete embarrassment and thinks I an ruining her life.

Febuary:
This month I had a play date at my house for Valentines day. We invited Olivia and Avary ( and their mothers Michele & Tara). This was unusual for me since I am not a ” crafty person”. I even went to Michaels to get crafts. I NEVER go to Michael’s because I am terrible at arts and crafts and don’t like scrap booking. The made crafty cards for their Daddies and backed sugar cookies. The girls had a good time and the Dad’s really liked their homemade V-day presents.

Audrey also started Ballet lessons this month. On Tuesday Mornings we go to ” Mommy and Me” dance class. Its adorable to see her walk on her tippy toes in her little leotard! She LOVES “Miss Cathy” the woman who teaches the class. I am now able to use Miss Cathy and dance class as a bribe…” If you want to see Miss Cathy at dance class you had better eat your sandwich!”
Also, She has overcome her hatred of waiting in lines. At first she would cry when she had to wait her turn to sashay across the floor in dance class. After 2 classes she was cured. Now she tells anyone who will listen that when she goes to ballet class ” I wait my turn and NO CRYING!”

We took a trip to Miami for Audrey’s great Grandpas Birthday. We got to see My Dad’s brothers and spend some time with the whole family. Audrey was SO easy this trip, no fussing in the car, slept well in her Dora Inflatable bed at the hotel, and loved the elevator. My dad drove with us and that helps a lot because he likes to sit in the backseat with her and she’s completely entertained by him.

Oh, that’s another development. Audrey will now eat a peanut butter sandwich on wheat if I use a cookie cutter to cut out shapes for her sandwiches! This is the first” normal” kid food she’s eaten. She still eats pizza crust and is starting to accept a bit of sauce on the bread. She still likes all her food separate so her usual meal is chicken nuggets, string cheese and a slice of wheat bread ( shell only eat the crust) and fruit.
Her new favorite things are puzzles. She can complete large puzzles intended for 5 year olds ( 10-15 large pieces) by herself. Sometimes she’s better a putting them together then Rob and I are which is pretty sad. She definitely has Robs spatial relations skills, not mine. She doesn’t even need spaces to put the puzzle in – a border for it. She can start with a middle or end piece on the floor and crate the rest, all alone. Truly amazing. Her memory is also incredible. She can hold at least 6 bits at a time. ( The average adult holds 7 +/- 2) She has an electronic memory game that gives her a series of symbols ( pencil, car, wheel) that she has to repeat back by pressing the buttons. After 5 ( the machine says “pencil, car, wheel, star, fish” – then she locates and presses them in the he correct order) the game ends and starts over at one. I’m not sure what her capacity is, but I’m sure she can do 6 at least.
She also loves she Scholastic videos that go with some of the the books she has. My Mom got most of these matching videos for her and her favorites are The Napping house, The Bbear Snores On, Chick Chick Boom Boom, and The Very Hungary Caterpillar. She has memorized The Napping House book ( her current favorite) and large parts of many others. She’s starting to pretend more now too. The most amazing thing she said this month was when she told me, as showed me her toy butterfly, that “butterflies do a metamorphosis”. I think she saw this on Disney channel – Little Einstein’s show. I was amazed that she remembered it! She gets very excited about butterflies and caterpillars.
Things Audrey does NOT like:
Having her toenails cut, toothpaste, many animated toys, the handy vac cleaner, my hairdryer if its on high, her food touching ( or even two different foods on the same plate if the plate does not have dividers, nail polish, wearing socks, people asking her if they can have a bite of her food, anyone being nearby while she’s going potty.
Things Audrey Loves:
Puzzles, lemonade, The Ants Go Marching song, stickers- especially if they are Dora or Elmo, blueberries, homemade whipped cream, putting books away in her bookshelf while singing the “clean up” song, maps, marshmallows, going to dance class, ” playing cozy” in our bed ( snuggling with me and Rob)

January:
Christmas was wonderful. She was very excited about opening gifts this year. She was spoiled by everyone, especially by her Aunts Lorrie & Mindy ( and her Uncles) who got her a Dora the Explorer Jeep! It was rainy on Christmas so she didn’t get to ride much, but she did get to play with the ” TMX Elmo” that Lorrie also got for her. This was the ” hot toy” in the stores this year and Lorrie managed to get her hands on one. She liked it more than I thought she would ( thought she might be afraid)! She likes to Mimic all Elmo’s movements.
Audrey got to spend time in my Moms PreK class today for ” Snow day” and she had a blast. I realize that she is totally ready for school and am considering putting her in preschool a few mornings a week. She did a great job keeping up with the 4 year olds even though she’s not even 3 yet. It also confirmed how brilliant she is, once again. Because she knows all her letters, numbers past 20, letter sounds, colors, etc. she was answering questions that many of the kids in the class could not and loved the stimulating environment.

November:
Time is flying by. This month we went to Lowrey Park Zoo with ” Ti Ti Lorrie, Ti Ti Mindy, Apple Forrest and Apple Mark.” She had a great time but threw a complete hissy fit when she had to wait in line to go onto the carousel! She does NOT like to wait in line when there is something exciting like a carousel ahead! ( Can ya blame her?)

October 13th:
Audrey is potty trained! For two weeks we have been going out without diapers and she’s never had an accident ( crossing my fingers). At first she was ” holding it” cause she didn’t wanna go poop in the potty, but now she runs in the bathroom , pulls down her undies and tells me to ” come back” meaning she needs some privacy to poop! She still has accidents overnight sometimes because she wakes up so much at night… but that is the only time she wears a diaper. She’s had a lot of dry nights this week so I expect she will be sleeping in undeis very shortly.

September 6th:
I haven’t posted in quite a while so I have lots of catching up to do!
In August we took a trip to Miami and a trip to Jacksonville.
In Jacksonville we had lots of fun including playing in the yard at Lorrie and JJ’s new house and fingerprinting! In Miami we saw Audrey’s Great Grandparents and went to Butterfly World with Mondy and Forrest. ( see pics)
Audrey has also been taking classes as Gymboree( I go with her – they are Mommy & Me type classes). The program is called Global Kids and she gets to experience play, music, dance, customs and activities all the worlds cultures. We also go to art class there which I love because I don’t have to clean up the huge mess after she paints. She really likes it; Her favorite part is when the teacher plays the guitar and sings songs from other countries. she says ” MORE TAR!! MOR TAR” (more Guitar!) She has a lot of trouble sitting quietly and is always the one to start the others in goofing off (like doing somersaults or dancing instead of listening to the teacher). She is very easily bored ( a sign of genius).
She is a little chatterbox now, clearly stating what she wants and doesn’t want and giving us running commentary on all her activities. ( “Au-dwee go, Kik -a ball- good job!) as she plays soccer. Late lately she want us to do everything WITH her – ” Mommy dance -a-me, sing – a-me, play soccor – a – me” and as soon as you try and end the activity she yells MORE DANCING ( SINGING, SOCCOR, ETC). She compliments herself constantly ( good job, that’s it, right, try again, ok, you did it, nice!) She has mastered the somersault and is very good at kicking and throwing and galloping. She also loves to read and count. She counts to 20 easily ( except she says ” five teen” not fifteen”), counts to 10 in Spanish ( thanks to Dora) but usually forgets 7 and 8, and she knows all her letters( upper and lower) AND all her letter sounds perfectly. In fact, she is so good at identifying letter sounds that she can hear the sound and then tell you the corresponding letter. I cannot believe she does this at only 2 1/2. I think she will be an early reader. She has started to say ” I love you very much” which is super sweet. She’s become much more affectionate over the few months. She has finally lost all stranger anxiety. Now we have to pry her away from strangers. She greets everyone she sees when we are out with ” HELLO- HOW – ER – EWWW?” and a big grin. In public places she will sometimes shout ” HELOO- EVERY-BODY! She has aslo started calling JJ “APPLE JJ” since she cant say Uncle JJ.
Potty training is still a challenge. Although she had a few days of almost perfect pottying now she is having accidents all day long. Today I put her in big girl panties and we’ve already been though 2 pairs. Not having her diaper doesn’t seem to be a deterrent. Potty training sucks.
She’s into Diego now and loves leaning new animals. She will tell us she sees a puma or an iguana now instead of a cat or a lizard. Another thing she does that’s cute is she will say ” IM SO HAPPY!” when she’s in good mood ( usually when we go for walks) or something special happens like a friend comes to visit or she gets a new toy.
She still lives on crackers/breads and all types of fresh fruit. Chic fil a chicken nuggets are a staple too. She will eat cheese, milk, yogurt, cereal, pizza ( crust only- no cheese) and not ,much else. She drinks V8 ( thank god) since this is her only vegetable source aside from corn on occasion. I know its better than burgers and fries but I would love for her to start eating ” real food”!
She’s extremely polite although she burps constantly she does say excuse me ( skuze-e-mommy) and says thank you all the time ( tanks!).

Audrey started sleeping in her toddler bed ” AKA big girl bed” today. We were very nervous about this but she loves it and is doing great. She stays in the bed and stays asleep all-night. I was worried that she might wake up in the night and start wandering the house!
